Abstract

The article examines the activities of scientific and educational societies and their impact on the development of
high school education in the second half of XIX – early XX century in Ukraine and particular in the Odessa region;
reveals the essence of societies and study their contribution to the development and democratization of science and
popularization of scientific knowledge; analyzed a number of educational organizations which functioned during the
period and carried out work on the state of education and the number of illiterate citizens of Ukraine. During the late
nineteenth – early twentieth century was the rapid development of culture, which also influenced the changes that
were taking place in education. Along with reforms in education also contributes a large amount of the educational and
scientific organizations, which in the period became great popularity.
In the late nineteenth early twentieth century economic and political ties with other countries were improved in
Ukraine. Thus, there is a need for more skilled workers. Within the walls of these events, there were a large number of
scientific and educational societies, most of them were concerned about the current state of education, in particular, the
number of illiterate people in Ukraine and particularly in the Odessa region.
Most societies were involved with the educational textbooks published for schools and other educational institutions, and
organized various scientific and recreational activities, and tried to solve some specific questions about education. Scientific
Society, in addition to print books, arranged special courses to improve the teaching of classification. But along with the
educational activities and scientific societies a referral was to improve the state of education among farmers and poor people
